Depending on your utility provider, you may be able to access special rebates, payment plans, or extensions. Eligibility and availability vary program to program. Please note that the EnergyFundsforAll.org team is unable to offer major technical assistance or answer in-depth questions about these opportunities, and you should contact your utility provider with questions.
Duke
Payment Assistance
- Customer Assistance Program: Intended to make monthly bills more manageable, the Customer Assistance Program provides qualifying customers a flat monthly credit of up to $42 for a period of 12 months. Must be a recipient of LIHEAP or CIP.
- Installment Plans: Need help with an unexpectedly high bill or a deposit increase? Duke can help you break down the charges into more manageable installments. If you miss a monthly payment, you lose installment plan
- Due Date Extension: If you know ahead of time that you will miss your due date, this payment option may be for you. Extend your payment due date by up to 5 business days, twice a year on a 12-month rolling basis, to avoid late fees
- Disconnect Date Extension: This payment option gives residential and business customers up to two weeks to pay their past-due balance and avoid disconnection
- Budget Billing: Budget Billing can make planning and budgeting for energy costs easier and more accurate than ever. You get predictable monthly energy bills regardless of changes in your energy usage or the weather

- Winter Moratorium: NOV 1 – MARCH 31. prohibition against disconnecting service to customers (during a designated time period) who meet eligibility requirements established by the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
- Operation Fan Heat Relief: MAY 1 – OCT 31. provides free fans to qualifying vulnerable older adults and adults with disabilities who are at risk for heat-related illnesses

- Budget Billing: allows you the option of an equalized method of paying your energy bill by calculating your annual cost (from the previous 12-month billing history) into equal monthly payments over the next year
- Levelized Billing: (different from budget billing) enjoy consistent monthly payments and avoid unexpected spikes during extreme weather months
- Payment Arrangement: Need a little extra time to make your payment? Use our payment arrangement feature to request an extension on your account (requires account login)

Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate Program (HEAR)
Home Energy Rebates (HER)
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps eligible households pay their heating bills. The application will be open from December 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. Click here to learn more about how to apply.
If you are experiencing a heating or cooling crisis in North Carolina, the Crisis Intervention Program may be able to help. Applications are taken each year beginning July 1st – June 30th of the following year or until the CIP allocation is exhausted, whichever comes first. For more information and application criteria, please visit the State’s website here: Crisis Intervention Program.
If you are approved for LIHEAP or the Crisis Intervention Program, you automatically qualify for Duke Energy’s Customer Assistance Program. CAP provides a flat monthly credit of up to $42 on your bill for 12 months, making your energy costs more manageable. Once your LIHEAP or CIP application is approved, the credit will be automatically applied to your Duke Energy bill.
If you are a Duke Energy customer in NC, the Tariffed On-Bill program can help homeowners and renters install energy efficiency improvements, pay over time on their electric bill, and save money immediately.
