# Drinking Water-Related Environmental Infrastructure Assistance

Funding for: [Local Governments](https://energyfundsforall.org/category/local-governments/), [Nonprofits](https://energyfundsforall.org/category/nonprofits/)

Goal: [Decrease my pollution](https://energyfundsforall.org/tag/decrease-my-pollution/), [Environmental justice](https://energyfundsforall.org/tag/environmental-justice/), [Reduce community pollution](https://energyfundsforall.org/tag/reduce-community-pollution/)

_**If you are seeking Hurricane Helene Emergency Funding for Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure**, the NC Division of Water Infrastructure can provide funding assistance to local governments, nonprofit water/wastewater providers, and investor-owned drinking water companies in two ways: emergency bridge loans and State Revolving Fund loans (with principal forgiveness)._ _[Learn more here](https://www.deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/water-infrastructure/i-need-funding)_.

## What does this funding get me?

* Low-interest loans (1/2 of market interest rates)
* Limited amount of principal forgiveness loans

## Am I eligible?

* Local government units (counties, cities, towns, sanitary districts, etc.)
* Nonprofit water corporations
* Investor-owned drinking water corporations

Eligible projects include source, treatment, storage, or transmission and distribution systems.

## How can I access the money?

The grant is part of the IIJA (Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021). In North Carolina, it supplemented funding already being offered by the Department of Environmental Quality’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. Visit DEQ’s [web page on the DWSRF](https://www.deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/water-infrastructure/i-need-funding/drinking-water-state-revolving-fund) for full details.

## What is the timeline?

See DEQ’s [page on water infrastructure funding](https://www.deq.nc.gov/about/divisions/water-infrastructure/i-need-funding) to determine if any cycles are currently open.

## What other incentives could I use to help me accomplish my goals?

Check the [Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency](https://www.dsireusa.org/) (DSIRE) for additional incentives that may be offered by your state, local government, or utility, as well as important federal, state, and local policies. For questions regarding DSIRE, contact Justin Lindemann (NC Clean Energy Technology Center) at [jplindem@ncsu.edu](mailto:jplindem@ncsu.edu).

Check out our (non-exhaustive) [list of non-federal funding](https://energyfundsforall.org/non-federal-funds/) from other sources that may fit your energy and cost-saving goals.
